Competitiveness and Jealousy are the nature of business, not the nature of Love.

Been doing Karaoke Tuesday's with some friends and I've had a lot of fun doing it. I've spent a lot of time going over lyrics to songs I've chosen and I focus on finding where I relate to them. Recently my life just seems like its on a slow spiral downward and funny enough while going over "Little Lion Man" I received a unpleasant reminder of that and I put my as the "Little Lion Man". I felt that wasn't enough, so I also put an emphasis on the "Little Lion Man" being the family I'll never have with the girl I once loved.

Didn't have any breakdowns, did have a break through but still don't think the person I want to hear my message will ever really hear me. Or I her for that matter.

A lot of life's lessons you will hear more than once but it'll always come down to you to be able to walk through the door when its time.

Time is a Thin number.

Its slender and presents few opportunities.

My grand master plan is simple. Learn the lyrics of two songs to be ready for my next chance at karaoke. Songs are  'At Your Best (You Are Love)' by Aaliyah and 'The Blower's Daughter' by Damien Rice. My purpose isn't to sing well, its going to be to connect. Like my last Journal 'Performers' I talked about performers. Read a little more about method acting and how it can be used even in singers performance. Doesn't increase the vocal talent any but it aids soul to the words being spoken.

Spent a little more time at the Thai Buddhist Temple near me. Talked to the one monk I know and the only one that might speak English, was also able to talk to some other people there. Everyone there is friendly and nice.

Have pamphlet from there too. There are 12 principles in that pamphlet, one of which is involves taking part in the community. Not through just giving what you have but understanding the emotional significance behind it. What you give isn't limited to money or food, it can be love and time.

Also has a principles of self dependence and family. Knowing to care for those close to you and protecting them, while being able to stand firmly for yourself.

Didn't really talk about any of this with the Monk, we mostly talked about Thai words and phrases. I plan to learn enough to be able to communicate with the people there and understand the Sutras that are used. The one thing he told me that connected with me were the 5 precepts.

1. Refrain from killing
2. Refrain from taking what isn't given
3. Refrain from participating in sexual misconduct
4. Refrain from lying
5. Refrain from intoxicants

Defined

The 5th one effects the other four. As when we loose control of ourselves we are more likely to do the first four. Experience has proven this to be true, despite what fun memories I did have, its almost not worth the pain. Than again they say, "Anything worth doing is worth getting hurt for." Never going to tell anyone what to do. Just I myself need a break from my old path to see what else is out there.

Before I left he invited me to stay for 1 o'clock chanting/prayer. It was good and odd. I couldn't follow along even with a book that had the words but it was still worth experiencing. Got to see even them have problems sitting in place, which makes the whole thing way more human.

Title is because as monks they need to wear Yellow and Orange. Colors of the sun, colors of enlightenment.

Performers

A performer is someone who entertains an audience. The best performers will always be those who can engage the audience emotionally and connect everyone to his performance.

A spider builds its web from the center out, as a performer you most do the same. Channel yourself inward to outward.

My friend linked me to this audition of Thailand's Got Talent, first time seeing it surprised me. I watched it again and again. Knowing exactly what she would do but always fascinated by how she does it. It's a real performance, she entertained everyone and she had them connect. Even if it was only for a moment, that moment is more than enough.

Wisdom

I want to talk about Aaliyah. She's gone and right before her tragic accident she made a MTV diaries episode. There's one scene that stuck in the back of my mind. She brought out a Toy called a Magic Mic, she tells people how that was her first mic and how she practiced singing all the time. The smile she had when she showed it off and how happy the people around her are for her, made it worth remembering.

Years later, while working at Target, I decided to buy my Magic Mic. Just to play around with it. After loosing interest I put it away.

Took it out a few times over the years but still never serious about it. Last year, I decided to at least check out her work instead of just keeping that one memory in my head. Honestly, couldn't listen to any of her albums all the way through. It wasn't my 'type' of music and way too 90's.

I kept the albums around and now I'm listening to them again. I'm getting through them now, hearing the music but not really hearing her yet. By hearing her, I mean the feeling you get when you really connect with a song. Like the song really reaches you.

We can get these pieces of wisdom stuck in our head. Sometimes they stay stuck because we don't know 'how to apply them' or aren't yet ready to apply them.

If you get one of these pieces of wisdom, savor it and try it out when you feel ready. You could get something nice out of it.

I had a pretty good flow at the beginning of this year. Eventually right after valentine day it began to deteriorate. I was left with a slower version of that flow up to Ash Wednesday. Everything just came apart, literally, as I lost a piece of red thread on my finger that I had put for good luck.

I do believe in some mysticism but I don't think it's a life controlling property. It's more like "The Secret" where you can set up thought patterns to follow a certain course. You'll take certain things to imply positivistic and negativistic meanings. To a certain extent these things are worth knowing because psychological influences are important to one's mental health.

Before I lost my thread a girl told me, "Don't put to much of your luck into that thread because I did the same thing with a bracelet, once it broke, bad luck just started to pour into my life." My luck hasn't changed much but my attitude toward my life has. Thankfully I have come across something special in the 'Tao of Jeet Kune Do', where it states…

"To express yourself in freedom, you must die to everything of yesterday. From the 'old', you derive security; from the 'new'. You gain the flow."
