My grand master plan is simple. Learn the lyrics of two songs to be ready for my next chance at karaoke. Songs are 'At Your Best (You Are Love)' by Aaliyah and 'The Blower's Daughter' by Damien Rice. My purpose isn't to sing well, its going to be to connect. Like my last Journal
'Performers' I talked about performers. Read a little more about method acting and how it can be used even in singers performance. Doesn't increase the vocal talent any but it aids soul to the words being spoken.
Spent a little more time at the Thai Buddhist Temple near me. Talked to the one monk I know and the only one that might speak English, was also able to talk to some other people there. Everyone there is friendly and nice.
Have pamphlet from there too. There are 12 principles in that pamphlet, one of which is involves taking part in the community. Not through just giving what you have but understanding the emotional significance behind it. What you give isn't limited to money or food, it can be love and time.
Also has a principles of self dependence and family. Knowing to care for those close to you and protecting them, while being able to stand firmly for yourself.
Didn't really talk about any of this with the Monk, we mostly talked about Thai words and phrases. I plan to learn enough to be able to communicate with the people there and understand the Sutras that are used. The one thing he told me that connected with me were the 5 precepts.
1. Refrain from killing
2. Refrain from taking what isn't given
3. Refrain from participating in sexual misconduct
4. Refrain from lying
5. Refrain from intoxicants
DefinedThe 5th one effects the other four. As when we loose control of ourselves we are more likely to do the first four. Experience has proven this to be true, despite what fun memories I did have, its almost not worth the pain. Than again they say, "Anything worth doing is worth getting hurt for." Never going to tell anyone what to do. Just I myself need a break from my old path to see what else is out there.
Before I left he invited me to stay for 1 o'clock chanting/prayer. It was good and odd. I couldn't follow along even with a book that had the words but it was still worth experiencing. Got to see even them have problems sitting in place, which makes the whole thing way more human.
Title is because as monks they need to wear Yellow and Orange. Colors of the sun, colors of enlightenment.
